PUSH

Sitting in the waiting area, waiting for my name to be called so I can be seen. I’ve been waiting for hours, and I’m beginning to get a little impatient. Finally, I hear my name. They take my vitals and send me off to a room. We’re back to square one. This time, I’m waiting in the room for my nurse to enter. Luckily, the wait wasn’t as long. The pain begins kicking in. The pressure was building, becoming more unbearable by the moment. I didn’t know what was going on with my body. The nurse finally walks in, looks at me, then at the monitor. Her eyes widened. “You’re pregnant,” she said, almost breathless. “And it’s time to push.” I froze. The room spun. Before I could ask a single question, everything started moving fast. Nurses began rushing in. I was put on a stretcher and transported to another room. Here I am, in my most vulnerable state, on my back, while one group hooks me up to machines and another is propping my legs up.
“One, two, three, push! One, two, three, push! One, two, three, push!” We did that a few times and, not long after, I finally delivered. I didn’t know I was pregnant. I had just given birth to destiny. Life as I’ve known it will never be the same. One single act has changed my life forever!
I’m tired of running. Tired of doubting. Tired of shrinking to fit into places I’ve outgrown. Destiny didn’t wait for me to be ready. It showed up when it was time, kicked the door down and said “Push.”
So I did.
And now I’m here…bloody, exhausted, cracked open - but alive.
Wide open.
No turning back.
